City of Riga under Swedish rule. BI Schilling / Solidus, 1643, Christina (1632–1654). 0.58 g. UNC/UNC. Catalog: Haljak 1525.
Historical background: After Poland ceded Livonia, Riga struck small billon solidi under Swedish monarchs. Under Queen Christina the types with crowned C and Wasa arms and the city’s arms were standard local change; year often abbreviated on the reverse (here 43 for 1643).
Obv.: Wasa arms inside crowned C; CHRISTINA·D·G·D·R·S.
Rev.: Coat of arms of Riga in ornamented shield; SOLIDVS·CIVI·RIG·43.
