Denomination within an inner circle; RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE and 1887 between two stars outside, within a grenetis., Denomination and mint letter within an inner circle; outside, French motto and ESSAI between a cornucopia and a lictor's fasces; all within a grenetis., Graded PCGS SP64 #55909762. Pattern of the 5 Centimes coin by the engraver Merley (‘type II’), with double denomination. Of the highest rarity, only one other example is known at this time: CGB Mail Bid Sale 46 (02/12/2010), lot 748. Struck with the same dies, the same die break on the obverse is visible.
