U.S.A MPC - Series 471 5 Cents ND (1947-1948)

Military Payment Certificates (MPCs) were specialized banknotes issued by the U.S. government from 1946 to 1973 to compensate military personnel stationed abroad. They served as an alternative to U.S. dollars to prevent local currency inflation and black-market trading in occupied or war-affected regions. MPCs were used in 22 countries, including post-war Europe, Asia, and Vietnam. A total of 13 series were produced, with denominations ranging from five cents to twenty dollars. Each series was periodically replaced, making previous ones invalid to deter hoarding and counterfeiting.

The Series 471 Military Payment Certificates (MPCs) were in circulation from July 29, 1946, to March 10, 1947. Printed by Tudor Press and the Forbes Lithograph Corporation in Boston, Massachusetts, these certificates were distributed across various countries. They were used in Austria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Morocco, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the Ryukyu Islands, Scotland, Trieste, and Yugoslavia.

Military Payment Certificates (MPC’s) waren gespecialiseerde bankbiljetten die de Amerikaanse overheid tussen 1946 en 1973 uitgaf voor militaire betalingen in het buitenland. Ze dienden als alternatief voor de Amerikaanse dollar om inflatie en zwarte marktactiviteiten in bezette of door oorlog getroffen gebieden te beperken. MPC’s werden gebruikt in 22 landen, waaronder Europa, Azië en Vietnam. Er zijn in totaal 13 series uitgebracht, met coupures van vijf cent tot twintig dollar.
