William of Orange, also known as "William the Silent," is considered the father of the Dutch nation. Born in 1533, he played a key role in the Dutch Revolt against Spanish rule. William led the rebels in their fight for religious freedom and against the autocratic rule of Philip II of Spain. His dedication to Protestantism and his political vision ultimately led to the creation of the Dutch Republic in 1588. William of Orange's commitment to freedom, tolerance, and independence has had a lasting impact on Dutch history and culture. He is still honored as the founder of modern-day Netherlands.
