Valentinian II was Roman emperor from 375 to 392 CE, proclaimed ruler as a young child following the death of his father, Valentinian I. His reign was dominated by powerful generals and court officials, particularly Arbogast, while the empire faced religious and political upheaval. In 392, Valentinian was found dead under mysterious circumstances, possibly murdered or driven to suicide. His death led to a civil war that was ultimately won by Theodosius I, who briefly reunited the Roman Empire under his rule.
