The coins from the hoard from Chhindawara in Madhya Pradesh were recently published by Shtrugan Jain in JNSI. The coins were reportedly found in Chhindawara. Their addtribution is to Chetiya Janapada and is based on the find spots of these types of coins. This beautiful type is very rare, not previousely published.
The Chedi (Cedi) Janapada was an ancient kingdom of central India, counted among the sixteen Mahājanapadas in early Buddhist tradition. During the 5th–4th centuries BC, its territory lay broadly in the region of modern Bundelkhand, between the Yamunā and Narmadā systems, with Sotthivatī (Suktimatī) traditionally named as its capital. Chedi appears in Buddhist, Jain, and Brahmanical traditions as an old and important polity, although its political history during this period is poorly documented. By the 3rd–2nd centuries BC, the region had fallen within the expanding sphere of Magadha and the Mauryan Empire; after the Mauryan decline, Chedi again emerged as a recognizable regional political and cultural area, though the precise relationship between this ancient Chedi and later dynasties bearing the Cedi/Chedi name remains uncertain.
