Commemorative Medal 1920 Ghent, to its Glorious Sons, Fighters in the World War 1914–1918.
The Ghent city council decided to honor all veterans and conscripts during the 1920 Gentse Feesten by presenting them with a commemorative medal. This medal was also given to the widows or rightful heirs of fallen soldiers. The commemoration day, attended by the royal family, drew an audience of 6,000 spectators. After the parade, Mayor Braun delivered a speech and handed out the commemorative medals. The examples present here are likely remnants of the original stock.
