Historical context:
Jean-François Vleminckx (1800–1866) was a key figure in the development and modernization of the Belgian military medical services. As Inspector-General, he introduced reforms to improve sanitary conditions and medical logistics within the army. This medallion, issued in 1853 and engraved by Léopold Wiener, was a tribute from his peers and subordinates in the military medical corps. It highlights his administrative integrity, organizational talent, and personal dedication to his role. The high-relief style and elegant execution are typical of Wiener’s craftsmanship.
