Historical context:
This medal was struck in 1805 as a tribute to Heinrich Callisen (1740–1824), one of Denmark’s most eminent surgeons and medical educators. He served as Professor Primarius and Director General of the Danish Medical Corps, and played a crucial role in shaping military and academic medicine in the early 19th century. Issued by his students as a gesture of gratitude, the medal is a rare and early example of Danish medical commemoration. Engraved by G. F. Jacobs
