Obverse
Standing nude female figure symbolizing Freedom, holding aloft a partially billowing cloth or banner. Her posture and flowing form suggest emancipation and renewal. Signed discreetly by the artist.
Reverse
Calligraphic inscription in stylized Dutch script:

(“1945 – The year of our regained Freedom”)
At the top, a “V” for Victory. The layout and lettering are highly decorative.
Historical Context
This medal was issued by the Vereniging voor Penningkunst (VPK) as the official year medal for 1945, commemorating the liberation of the Netherlands at the end of World War II. Designed by W.J. Valk, a prominent Dutch architect and sculptor, it combines elegant symbolism with typographic refinement. Listed in Tilanus as Til.179.
