Belgium – Bronze Medal 1934 – Leopold III – 25th Anniversary of the Christian Mutual Society “Mutuelle des Vigniaux” (Namur-Andenne)

Obverse:
Right-facing bust of Leopold III – King of the Belgians – in military uniform. Legend: “LEOPOLD III ROI DES BELGES”.

Reverse:
Outer legend: “FÉDÉRATION DES MUTUALITÉS CHRÉTIENNES * ARRONDISSEMENT DE NAMUR”.
Central inscription:
“MUTUELLE DES VIGNIAUX / XXVe ANNIVERSAIRE / 9 SEPT. / 1934 / NAMUR-ANDENNE”.
At bottom: “ABSIL NAMUR” (likely the local engraver or issuer).

Historical Context:
This medal commemorates the 25th anniversary of the “Mutuelle des Vigniaux”, a Christian mutual aid society serving transport and industrial workers in the Namur-Andenne region. Such societies were part of a broader Catholic social movement in Belgium, offering healthcare and solidarity structures. Leopold III had just succeeded his father Albert I as King in 1934, and his portrait on the obverse reflects his early role as constitutional monarch.
