Historical context:
This bronze medal was struck in 1832 by C.R. Krüger to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of King Gustavus II Adolphus of Sweden at the Battle of Lützen. Revered as a champion of Protestantism during the Thirty Years’ War, his leadership and legacy were especially honored in Protestant Germany. This medal was issued as a tribute to his enduring influence.
