Reverse: Provincial coat of arms of East Flanders, crowned and surrounded by decorative scrollwork. Around, the Dutch and French inscription: "PROVINCIALE TENTOONSTELLING VOOR DE VERSPREIDING DER ELECTRICITEIT – GENT 1924 – EXPOSITION PROVINCIALE DE VULGARISATION DE L’ELECTRICITE" ("Provincial Exhibition for the Dissemination of Electricity – Ghent 1924").
Historical context:
This medal was issued for the 1924 Provincial Exhibition in Ghent, dedicated to the promotion of electricity in agriculture and rural life. At the time, electrification was a driving force for modernization, promising efficiency and progress in the Flemish countryside. The allegorical female figure symbolizes the transformative power of electricity, while the dynamo highlights its technical foundation. Designed by Belgian sculptor and medallist Hippolyte Le Roy (1857–1943).
