Wildlife of the Galápagos Islands – Booklet with Eight Souvenir Notes
After Charles Darwin observed the unique animals of the Galápagos Islands in 1835, he proposed the theory that species adapt to the particular challenges of their habitat and that new species arise through natural selection. It was the birth of modern evolutionary biology and the Galápagos Islands became world famous. This booklet includes an exceptional series of eight souvenir notes, each dedicated to one of the species from the Galápagos Islands: the Sally Lightfoot crab, the blue-footed booby, the magnificent frigatebird, the Galápagos land iguana, the marine iguana, the Galápagos penguin, the Galápagos giant tortoise and the Galápagos sea lion. In addition to the animal motif, each front side features a gold foil patch with a stylized tortoise. The rock formation “Darwin's Arch” and a portrait of Darwin are depicted on the back side of each note. Along with the souvenir notes, the booklet contains detailed background information on the animal species and the Galápagos Islands, as well as high-resolution images.
