“Swiss Medal ‘Federal Shooting Festival, St. Gallen 1904,’ Silver, Huguenin Frères. An exquisite silver medal commemorating the Federal Shooting Festival held in St. Gallen in 1904. The obverse depicts a marksman with a rifle set against the backdrop of natural scenery and the cityscape of St. Gallen. The reverse features an allegorical female figure symbolizing Switzerland, with inscriptions referring to the festival (EIDGENOSSISCHES SCHÜTZENFEST) and the cantonal coats of arms. The piece was crafted by Huguenin Frères, a renowned Swiss medallic house.
According to the Richter catalog, the medal’s mintage is limited to only 759 pieces, making this lot one of the rarest examples of its time.
This medal is an outstanding example of early 20th-century artistry and a rare numismatic treasure. A similar lot was sold at Heritage Auctions in 2020 for $460.”
