The city council of 's-Gravenhage (The Hague) attracted famous engraver and medalist Meijer for designing the 1786 city council token. These city council tokens were presented to members attending the city-council meetings, represented a significant value through their silver-content and could later be redeemed with the city treasurer. The example presented here is a rare contemporaneous cast of a silver original in iron with ringlet for wearing, likely made by a member of the Vroedschap carrying it as a memento of his time in the city council.
Obverse: Crowned coat of arms of The Hague supported by two lions on platform
Reverse: City godess and Justitia with attributes standing with clasped hands, SC in exergue – CONCORDIA above
