Maria Ludovica of Modena (1787-1816) married her first cousin Franz I, emperor of Austria. She was immensely popular among her subjects and, not only through her husband, wielded significant power at the Austrian court. Her death in 1816 due to tuberculosis, at only 28 years old, was immortalised on this medal (struck in gold, silver and bronze) by L. Manfredi.
