Adela and Celsa Speratti were two iconic figures in Paraguayan education. Born in 1865 and 1868 respectively, they dedicated their lives to improving the country's educational system. Adela, the older sister, was known for her passionate commitment and innovative teaching methods. Celsa, the younger sister, shared the same devotion to education and worked alongside her sister to promote literacy and equal opportunities for all Paraguayan children. Their work was essential in rebuilding the educational system after the War of the Triple Alliance. In recognition of their contributions, their portraits are featured on the 2000 guaranis polymer banknote issued by the Central Bank of Paraguay.
