This 5 centime coin, minted in France in 1981, comes from a Fleur de Coin (FDC) set. Its composition is an alloy of copper, aluminum, and nickel. The coin weighs 2 grams and has a diameter of 17 millimeters. The edge is smooth.
The obverse of the coin features the left profile of Marianne, symbol of the French Republic, facing the wind and wearing the Phrygian cap. The perimeter of the coin is adorned with the inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE". The engraver's signature, LAGRIFFOUL, can also be seen under Marianne's portrait. Henri Lagriffoul is the artist to whom we owe this representation.
The reverse of the coin depicts an ear of wheat and an olive branch, symbols of prosperity and peace. The motto of the French Republic, "LIBERTE - EGALITE - FRATERNITE", is inscribed in an arc around the face value. The nominal value "5 CENTIMES" is indicated in the center of the coin. The mint marks, distinctive marks of the mint and the general engraver, frame the face value. The signature "A.DIEUDONNE" also appears on the reverse, identifying the artist who contributed to the design of this side of the coin.
