The 10 francs Berlioz banknote is a French banknote issued by the Banque de France. The example presented here bears the date of 5 January 1976 and belongs to series T.285.
This banknote pays tribute to Hector Berlioz (1803-1869), a major French composer of musical Romanticism and author of the Symphonie fantastique, among other works. His portrait appears centrally on the front of the note, in an engraved style characteristic of Banque de France productions of that era. The reverse of the note features a view of the château de La Côte-Saint-André, the composer's birthplace in the Isère region, accompanied by iconographic elements related to the world of music.
This type of banknote was put into circulation between 1972 and 1978, a period during which the Banque de France progressively renewed its range of banknotes. The graphic design of this series reflects the care given to artistic details and anti-counterfeiting features inherent to the intaglio printing techniques used at the time by the Banque de France workshops.
The series and printing date are precise identification elements that allow this example to be placed within the issuance chronology of the Berlioz type, information that is essential for collectors specialising in French numismatic papyrology of the 20th century.
