This lot brings together six Moroccan coins issued in 2023, covering all the common denominations of contemporary Moroccan monetary circulation. It includes coins of 10 and 20 santimat (centimes), as well as coins of 1/2, 1, 5 and 10 dirhams, forming a representative set of the monetary system of the Kingdom of Morocco.
All the coins in this lot are made of bimetallic metal, a minting technique combining two distinct metal alloys within a single coin. This composition is particularly characteristic of higher face value denominations, such as the 5 and 10 dirham coins, whose bimetallic structure is visually distinguished by the presence of an outer ring and a central insert of different shades. The total weight of the entire lot is 40 grams.
Moroccan coins of this generation display on their obverse the effigies and symbols specific to the Alaouite monarchy, including the representation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the reigning sovereign of Morocco since 1999. The reverse of each coin features the usual identification elements, including the face value expressed in dirhams or santimat, as well as inscriptions in the Arabic language, reflecting the cultural and national identity of the Kingdom.
The Moroccan dirham (MAD) is the official monetary unit of Morocco, subdivided into 100 santimat. The coins issued under the 2023 vintage are part of the continuity of the modern series struck by Bank Al-Maghrib, the central bank of the Kingdom, responsible for the issuance and management of the national currency. This lot represents a coherent set allowing an appreciation of the diversity of formats, weights and metallic compositions specific to current Moroccan coinage.
