This 2-euro commemorative coin, issued by the Principality of Andorra in 2020, marks the 50th anniversary of the granting of voting rights to women in the country.
The coin is bimetallic, with a Nordic gold centre and an outer ring in cupro-nickel. It weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimetres, with a thickness of 2.20 millimetres. The mintage of this commemorative edition is limited to 60,000 pieces in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality.
The central motif of the coin features a stylised female face. A distinctive feature of this design lies in the composition of the hair strands, which are formed by a multitude of female first names. This representation symbolises the identity and diversity of Andorran women.
The year of issue, 2020, is clearly indicated on the coin, highlighting the anniversary being commemorated. The edge of the coin is reeded and bears the repeated inscription of the face value, "2", followed by two stars, alternated six times between obverse and reverse.
The commemorated event, the introduction of voting rights for women in Andorra, took place in 1970, when the Council of the Land granted this right following pressure exerted in the late 1960s. However, it was not until 1973 that women also gained the right to stand for election.
