This 10 euro silver coin was issued by the Monnaie de Paris in 2009 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the European Court of Human Rights. Established in 1959, the European Court of Human Rights is one of the most important international courts, responsible for ensuring that member states of the Council of Europe comply with the European Convention on Human Rights. This commemoration marks half a century of commitment to protecting the fundamental rights of European citizens.
The coin is struck in silver with a fineness of 900‰, corresponding to a high-quality alloy composed of 90% pure silver. It has a weight of 22.2 grams and a diameter of 37 millimetres, dimensions that give it a notable presence in hand. It comes from workshop A, corresponding to the Paris mint, identifiable by the distinctive hallmark of the Monnaie de Paris.
This issue is produced in Belle Épreuve (BE) version, a superior quality striking level characterised by perfectly polished fields and satin or frosted reliefs, offering a striking contrast between the different compositional elements. This striking process is reserved for collector coins and guarantees particularly careful sharpness and fineness of detail.
The face value of this coin is 10 euros, which gives it the status of French legal tender, although its primary purpose is numismatic. It is part of the series of French commemorative coins dedicated to the great institutions and landmark events of European integration and the defence of fundamental rights.
