The Peace of 1737 (formally negotiated as the Preliminary Treaty of Vienna in 1735 and finalized in 1738) ended the War of the Polish Succession. From the Austrian Habsburg perspective, it was a pragmatic compromise that secured France's crucial recognition of the Pragmatic Sanction in exchange for yielding significant Italian territories and the ancestral Duchy of Lorraine.
