Very rare silver medal on Marriage of Tsarevich Alexey Petrovich (son of Peter The Great and the Heir of the Russian Throne)and Princess Charlotte Christina Sophia of Brunswick-Lunenburg on October 25, 1711

The wedding of the son of Tsar Peter I, Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich (18/28.2.1690–26.6/7.7.1718) took place on October 14/25, 1711 in the royal castle of the Saxon (later Prussian) city of Torgau on the left bank of the Elbe. His wife was Princess Charlotte Christina Sophia of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (18.8.1694–22.10.1715), the third daughter of Duke Ludwig Rudolf of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel and his wife Christina Louise of Ettingen, from the Welf dynasty. The Crown Princess did not convert to Orthodoxy and remained a Lutheran. This marriage produced a daughter, Grand Duchess Natalya Alekseevna (21/7/1714–22/11/1728) and a son, Peter Alekseevich, the future Emperor Peter II (12/23/10/1715–19/30/1/1730). Crown Princess Charlotte died ten days after the birth of her son “due to a short-term illness” and was buried in the Peter and Paul Cathedral of the fortress of the same name in St. Petersburg.
