The Medal of the Orphanage was established during the reign of Empress Catherine II not for wearing. Since 1808, at the request of Empress Maria Fyodorovna, they began to award medals for wearing on a neck with a green ribbon. Medals were awarded to persons who distinguished themselves in the department of Empress Maria. The inscription on about. Art. medals: “AND YOU WILL LIVE” - a quote made in Russian letters from the Gospel of John in Church Slavonic.
