Emilio Aguinaldo was a Filipino revolutionary leader best known for his central role in the struggle for Philippine independence against Spanish and American colonial rule. He was born on March 22, 1869, and became a key figure in the Philippine revolution against Spain in the 1890s. Aguinaldo led the movement for independence and proclaimed the Philippines' independence on June 12, 1898, thus marking the end of nearly three centuries of Spanish rule. However, after the Spanish-American War, the United States took control of the Philippines. Aguinaldo then led resistance against American occupation but was eventually captured in 1901. Later, he pledged allegiance to the United States, but his role in the struggle for Philippine independence remains significant in the country's history. Aguinaldo passed away on February 6, 1964
