South Arabia, AR tetradrachm c. 4th century BC, helmeted bust of Athena right, monogram on neck/crude owl right, head facing with exaggerated beak. 16.62 g.
The obverse of this coin imitates the mass-coinage Athenian tetradrachms of circa 454-404 BC, whereas the reverse seems influenced by later Athenian types of the early 4th century BC. However, the greatest departure from the prototype is the symbol <· which appears on Athena's neck, alongside a jeweled collar to the left, instead of the usual necklace.
