This outstanding 1 oz High Relief gold coin from Australia dates from 2014 and depicts the mighty Wedge-Tailed Eagle in breathtaking detail at the precise moment of its hunting attack—a striking work by U.S. Chief Engraver John Mercanti . 2014 marks the first release of this popular series .

The example offered here has been certified by PCGS with the very high grade PR69 Deep Cameo (DCAM) —in near-perfect condition with deep contrast between the matte motif and the mirror-like background. The PCGS slab also bears John Mercanti’s original signature , making this coin even more desirable.

Motif & design

The obverse depicts a wedge-tailed eagle in full action, with wings spread wide as it soars to catch prey. The combination of high-relief embossing and the finest surface finishes bring out the true detail of each feather. The design is complemented by the inscription “WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE,” the year of issue, 2014, and the Perth Mint mintmark.

The reverse shows the classic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II , designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, as well as the face value of 100 AUD (Australian dollars) .
