Historical context:
Maria Duyst van Voorhout (1662–1754), wealthy noblewoman and widow of Frederik Adriaan Baron van Reede, founded the Fundatie van Renswoude in the mid-18th century. This charitable institution supported the technical education of orphaned boys in Utrecht, Delft, and The Hague. The medal commemorates the centenary of the foundation's creation, celebrated in 1856 with a festive gathering in Utrecht. The piece was engraved by David van der Kellen Jr. (1804–1879), a prominent Dutch medallist.
